UGC Orders Disability Compliance, Data Submission By September 2026
The University Grants Commission has told universities to make education more accessible for students with disabilities.
They must follow the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
This includes reserving seats for students with disabilities in every course.
Universities must also report how many such students they admit.
They must send information about staff recruitment, scholarships and fellowships as well.
This information must be submitted through an online portal by September 30, 2026.
Colleges must prepare plans to improve accessibility on their campuses.
They must also have groups that help protect equal opportunities and respond to students’ needs.
The University Grants Commission directed universities and affiliated colleges to comply with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Institutions must reserve seats for persons with disabilities in each course under Section 32 of the Act.
Universities must submit disability-related data on admissions, staff recruitment, scholarships and fellowships through the UAMP by September 30, 2026.
Institutions must create accessibility action plans and follow barrier-free building standards.
Universities and colleges must maintain functional Equal Opportunity Cells and form internal committees to address disability-related needs.
