PM Modi Hails CWG 2026 Medallists: 'You Prepared a Generation'

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, met the sport stars who won medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

A Commonwealth Games is a big sports event where countries from around the world compete against each other.

India's athletes won 39 medals—13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze.

That made India the fourth-best country at the Games.

They did this even though some sports they are usually great at, like wrestling, hockey, and badminton, were not played this time.

The boxers did especially well, winning seven gold medals, the best ever by Indian women boxers.

Two judo players, Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh, made history by winning India's first-ever judo gold medals at the Games.

The Prime Minister told the athletes that their medals inspire children more than any school speech could.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu became emotional talking about her struggles, and he said each of her tears was like a gold medal falling.

He said their wins have prepared an entire new generation of sports lovers and champions.
