Karnataka: 1.1 crore electors marked ASDDO in roll revision
The Election Commission in the Indian state of Karnataka is cleaning up its list of voters, called the electoral roll.
This cleaning exercise is called the Special Intensive Revision.
Workers called Booth Level Officers went from home to home to check who still lives at their address and who is eligible to vote.
They found over one crore names that may be wrong.
Some people had moved away, some had passed away, and some were listed twice or had enrolled elsewhere.
These names were marked with the special label ASDDO.
The government printed forms for all voters and has scanned almost all of them into computers.
Being marked ASDDO does not automatically remove a person from the voter list.
Anyone who was marked by mistake can ask election officers to fix it before August 8.
Young people turning 18 by October 1, 2026 can also register to vote for the first time.
Karnataka's Special Intensive Revision marked 1,10,97,426 electors (20.02%) as ASDDO – Already Shifted, Dead, Duplicate or Otherwise, over 50 lakh of them in Bengaluru's four zones.
All 5,54,32,314 Enumeration Forms were printed and distributed (100% coverage), with 99.97% digitised ahead of the August 8 deadline; one report cited 79.93% digitisation.
The verification found 66,62,257 electors (12.02%) permanently shifted, 16,27,642 (2.94%) untraceable or absent and 16,31,245 (2.94%) deceased.
The Election Commission said ASDDO-marked electors have not been removed from the rolls; lists were shared with recognised political parties and are available with Booth Level Officers.
Wrongly flagged electors can seek restoration through Booth Level Officers or Electoral Registration Officers before August 8, and 10 lakh Form 6 copies were issued for fresh enrolment in Bengaluru's BBMP and Greater Bengaluru Authority areas.
