Central Railway Sets Six-Month Scrap-Sale Record, Earning ₹323.50 Crore
Central Railway sold old and unused railway items to raise money and clear space.
From April to September 2026, it earned ₹323.50 crore from scrap sales.
The railway said this was its best first six months of a financial year and the highest total among regional railway zones.
September was its strongest month, with sales worth ₹70.42 crore.
A cleanliness drive also led to the disposal of 4,884 metric tonnes of scrap between September 17 and October 2.
The items included old equipment, sleepers and other things no longer fit for use.
The railway also disposed of locomotives, coaches and wagons.
Officials said the cleared areas can now be used more effectively.

The railway zone said it recorded the highest scrap sales among regional railways during that period.
September sales reached ₹70.42 crore, a record monthly figure for Central Railway.
Under the Zero Scrap Mission, 4,884 metric tonnes of scrap worth ₹44.24 crore were disposed of from September 17 to October 2.
Central Railway also sold 23 locomotives, 62 coaches and 70 wagons, and earned ₹1.11 crore from e-waste sales.
