Northeast Frontier Railway Reaches 42.1 MWp Solar Capacity
Northeast Frontier Railway is adding solar panels to produce cleaner electricity.
By July 2026, it had installed 42.1 MWp of solar capacity.
It added 23.7 MWp during the first seven months of 2026.
This was the largest addition among Indian Railways’ zonal railways.
Lumding Division had the most installed solar capacity.
In 2025–26, the solar systems produced about 114 lakh units of electricity.
This helped the railway save about Rs 8.6 crore.
Another 9 MWp of solar capacity is being developed.

It commissioned 23.7 MWp of solar capacity between January and July 2026, the highest among Indian Railways’ zonal railways.
Lumding Division, including its Guwahati portion, led installations with 17.7 MWp, followed by Rangiya with 9.6 MWp.
Solar generation reached about 114 lakh units in 2025–26, saving approximately Rs 8.6 crore.
A further 9 MWp is under implementation in divisions including Lumding, Rangiya, Katihar and Alipurduar.
