MEA urges international community to note PoK atrocities
India and Pakistan are neighbors who disagree about a beautiful mountain region called Kashmir.
India says Kashmir is part of its own country.
Pakistan controls a part of Kashmir too, which India calls Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
People living there are angry about high prices for electricity and food.
Their protests started over prices, but now they are asking for fair government and better treatment.
They say police and army are being very harsh with them.
Some say more than 50 people have been killed and hundreds more were injured.
The foreign minister of Norway met with Pakistan's leaders and they talked about Kashmir.
India heard about that meeting and told the world, please pay attention to what is happening in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
India wants everyone to know that it believes the whole region belongs to India.
India's Ministry of External Affairs urged the international community to take note of atrocities in illegal Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India.
The remarks responded to a Thursday meeting in Islamabad where Norway's Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and Pakistan's Ishaq Dar issued a joint statement discussing regional issues, including Kashmir.
Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) member Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri said more than 50 people have been killed and hundreds injured during the Pakistani crackdown in PoK.
Protests that began over rising prices of electricity and essential commodities have grown into a movement demanding political reforms, accountability, and representative government.
