REMZ compensation first instalment distributed to farmers in Addanki
Farmers in Prakasam district gave some of their land for a big new project that will make renewable energy, which is power from things like the sun and wind.
The government promised to pay them money for their land.
On Wednesday, the Energy Minister and the District Collector visited the town of Addanki.
They handed out the first set of payment cheques to 37 farmers.
The farmers received about 31 crore rupees for around 175 acres of land.
Each acre is worth 18 lakh rupees, which a district committee decided.
The government says it wants to create 20 lakh new jobs because of this project.
Officials say the farmers were never forced and gave their land willingly.
More farmers will receive their payments in later instalments.
Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar and District Collector P Raja Babu distributed the first instalment of compensation cheques to farmers in Addanki on Wednesday.
Cheques worth Rs 31,57,38,000 were given to 37 farmers for 175.41 acres of land voluntarily given for the Renewable Energy Manufacturing Zone (REMZ) project.
The district-level committee fixed compensation at Rs 18 lakh per acre for land identified in SN Gudipadu, East Kunduru and Mukkeswaram villages.
A total of 1036.93 acres, including 920.08 acres of patta land, has been identified across Ballikurava and Santamaguluru mandals in Prakasam district.
The minister said the state government aims to create 20 lakh jobs and that farmers were convinced through awareness programmes, not by force.
