Centre Sets Terms for Amit Shah Reply on Student Stir
In India, Parliament — the place where leaders make laws — has been stuck and not getting much work done for over a week.
It all started on July 20, when police pushed back against students who were walking to Parliament in a march called 'Sansad Chalo' to complain about leaked exam papers.
Several students and police officers got hurt, and pictures later showed that some protesters had pellet injuries.
The students, led by a group called the Cockroach Janta Party, wanted the Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to quit, and he did on July 30.
But the opposition, led by Rahul Gandhi, says that is not enough and wants Home Minister Amit Shah to explain who gave the order for the police firing.
The government says it is ready to talk, but wants the discussion to also cover similar student protests in Punjab and Jharkhand.
It also says a proper debate should happen, not just a short statement from Amit Shah.
Rahul Gandhi is also demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to the students and that someone be held responsible for money that went missing from donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
