BMC Clears 134 Encroached Footpaths, Reclaims 197 Kilometres
Mumbai’s civic authority is clearing footpaths that are blocked by stalls and other structures.
It says 134 footpaths have been cleared or targeted in the first part of the campaign.
Together, these footpaths cover almost 197 kilometres.
Near Bhandup Railway Station, officials removed 94 unauthorised stalls in two days.
This is meant to give commuters more room to walk.
The BMC is working on 14 footpaths in Bhandup and has started work on 11 of them.
It also plans to move some licensed stalls to different locations.
The campaign covers all 26 parts of Mumbai administered by the BMC.
The BMC says it cleared or acted against encroachments on 134 of 200 targeted footpaths during the campaign’s first phase.
The drive has reclaimed nearly 197 kilometres of pedestrian space across Mumbai’s 26 administrative wards.
Officials removed 94 unauthorised stalls near Bhandup Railway Station (West) over two days.
The BMC used five JCBs, 10 dumpers, more than 50 civic staff, 100 workers and over 70 police personnel in the Bhandup operation.
The civic body plans to relocate licensed civic and Aarey Dairy stalls that obstruct footpaths to designated sites or available plots.
