BMC Commissioner Orders Strict Audit of Mumbai Footpath Vending Spaces

In Mumbai, a big city in India, the person in charge of keeping the city clean and safe is called the Municipal Commissioner.

Her name is Ashwini Bhide.

She went out on Monday to check the sidewalks, which are called footpaths.

She wanted to make sure people can walk safely without things blocking their way.

Some shops and street sellers were using more space than they were allowed to, so she asked her team to check their licenses.

She also told workers to fix broken footpaths and make them look nice.

They are working on 200 footpaths, and they have already cleaned up almost 68 kilometers of walking space.

They also started 443 actions against people who broke the rules.

The city is doing this so that walking to school, hospitals, and train stations is safer for everyone.

She also asked for cameras to be put where people throw garbage, so the city stays clean.
