Pologround Substation Marks Six Decades Powering Indore’s Transformation
The Pologround Substation has supplied electricity to Indore for 60 years.
It began working in 1966, when the city was famous for its textile mills.
The substation helped power factories, homes and other businesses.
Indore later grew into a centre for manufacturing, medicines, information technology, education and healthcare.
At first, it had only one transformer and two feeders.
Today, it has three transformers and 16 feeders.
Engineers have added computers, digital meters and monitoring systems to improve safety and reliability.
The substation continues to help Indore grow and prepare for future energy needs.
The 132 kV Pologround (Chambal) EHT Substation was commissioned on August 30, 1966.
It initially had one 10 MVA transformer and two outgoing 33 kV feeders.
The substation now has three transformers totaling 176 MVA and 16 operational 33 kV feeders.
Its original 25-tonne Hitachi transformer was transported from Japan through Bombay to Indore.
Modern upgrades include numerical relays, digital metering, SCADA monitoring and underground 33 kV cables.
