Indore's 60-Year-Old Chambal Substation Gets Major Power Upgrade
In the city of Indore in India, there is a very old power station called the Chambal Substation.
It has been working for almost 60 years.
Inside the substation, 16 big power wires crossed over each other.
These crossing wires made it hard for workers to fix things and sometimes caused the power to go out.
The people in charge of the power decided to fix this problem.
They dug special tunnels and moved all the crossing wires underground.
Now the wires are safer and less likely to break.
That means homes and businesses in many parts of Indore will get steadier electricity.
It is like giving the old power station a big, helpful makeover!
All 16 overlapping 33 kV feeder crossings at Indore's 132 kV Chambal Substation were converted into an underground cable system.
The nearly 60-year-old substation is the oldest in Indore and the second-oldest extra high voltage (EHV) substation in the Malwa region.
The upgrade was carried out through coordinated efforts of West Discom and MP Transco, with the cost borne by West Discom.
Overlapping feeders had made maintenance difficult and occasionally caused tripping and power interruptions due to conductor snapping.
Consumers in areas including MG Road, Sarwate, Railway Station, Ujjain Road and Airport Road are expected to benefit from safer, more reliable supply.
