Char Dham pilgrimage crosses 48 lakh as Yamunotri breaks record

More than 48 lakh people have visited four important Hindu shrines in Uttarakhand this pilgrimage season.

These shrines are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

Yamunotri has already welcomed more visitors than in any earlier year.

Badrinath has received the most pilgrims so far.

The pilgrimage began on April 19 when the shrine portals opened.

Rain and difficult mountain weather can make travel dangerous during the monsoon.

Officials are watching the weather and may control pilgrim movement when conditions worsen.

They say keeping pilgrims safe is their highest priority.
