Guwahati Airport Commissions Enhanced Landing Safety System · NDTV

Guwahati Airport has installed a new lighting system to help airplanes land more safely.

The system is called a precision approach lighting system.

It is 570 metres long, compared with the previous 180-metre system.

The lights help pilots see the runway earlier when visibility is poor.

They also help pilots keep the airplane lined up with the runway.

Heavy monsoon rain and reduced visibility can make flying more difficult in the area.

The system was planned, installed, tested and checked under aviation safety requirements.

Officials said it will support the airport’s role as an important air transport hub for Northeast India.
