India Turns to United States as Hormuz Crisis Hits Supplies
India usually gets much of its cooking gas and natural gas from countries near the Gulf.
A conflict in West Asia has made it harder for ships to travel through the Strait of Hormuz.
Because of this, India is buying more LPG and LNG from the United States.
In August, the United States supplied about 0.62 million tonnes of LPG to India.
That was more than 73% of India’s LPG imports that month.
India received smaller amounts from the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
It received no LPG from Saudi Arabia in July or August.
The change shows how a shipping crisis can affect where countries get their energy.
India is increasingly sourcing LPG and LNG from the United States as conflict disrupts traditional Gulf supplies.
