India’s Defence Production Reaches Record Rs 1.78 Lakh Crore
India made more defence equipment than ever before in the financial year 2025-26.
The total value was Rs 1.78 lakh crore.
This was higher than the previous year and much higher than five years earlier.
Government-owned defence companies made most of the equipment.
Private companies made about one-quarter of it.
India also exported defence equipment worth Rs 38,424 crore to more than 80 countries.
The government says this supports its goal of making India more self-reliant.
However, these numbers do not show exactly how much of the equipment was made using Indian parts or how profitable the companies were.
India’s defence production reached Rs 1.78 lakh crore in FY2025-26, up 15.6% from the previous year.
Production has increased 110% from Rs 84,643 crore in FY2020-21 and nearly fourfold from FY2013-14.
Public-sector entities contributed about 76% of production, while the private sector’s share rose to 24%.
Private-sector defence production reached approximately Rs 42,000 crore, its highest reported level.
Defence exports rose 62.66% to Rs 38,424 crore, with equipment supplied to more than 80 countries.
