Industries, academia join Gujarat mission to skill 1.03 lakh youth
Gujarat, a state in India, started a big program to teach people new job skills and help them find work.
It is called the Namo Gujarat Kaushalya and Rozgar Mission.
The program plans to train more than one lakh people, which is over one hundred thousand, in just one year.
More than 250 companies and schools have agreed to help with the teaching.
People can learn things like building, healthcare, computers, robots, and electric cars.
The training is free, and people even receive a small amount of money after completing their lessons.
The classes are open to people between the ages of 14 and 59, including women and workers who want new skills.
Special cameras and attendance systems will make sure the classes really happen.
When people finish their training, the program helps connect them to jobs.
More than 250 industries and academic institutions have registered as training partners under Gujarat's newly launched Namo Gujarat Kaushalya and Rozgar Mission (NGKRM).
The mission targets skill training for 1.03 lakh candidates during 2026-27 and plans to expand to up to five lakh people annually.
Training will cover 20 priority sectors and 12 emerging technology domains, including artificial intelligence, robotics, electric vehicles, cybersecurity and semiconductor manufacturing.
Training under NGKRM is free, with eligible trainees receiving Rs 500 for every 120 hours of training via Direct Benefit Transfer to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
Partner organisations include L&T, the International Automobile Centre of Excellence (iACE), Tata Indian Institute of Skills and Ganpat University.
Training partners will be empanelled for three years, with a possible two-year extension, and payments will be linked to enrolment, certification and placement outcomes.
