Muizzu Hails Thilamalé Bridge as Symbol of Maldives-India Friendship
The Maldives is building a large bridge and causeway network near its capital.
The project will connect Malé with three nearby islands.
Workers have now joined the first part of the route between Malé and Vilimalé.
President Mohamed Muizzu visited the connection with India’s High Commissioner G. Balasubramanian.
India is supporting the project.
Muizzu said it shows the friendship between the Maldives and India.
He also said the work might finish within a year if progress continues.
Officials had previously mentioned 2027 as a completion date.
The finished project is expected to help people and businesses across Greater Malé.

The India-backed project will connect Malé with Vilimalé, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi through bridges and causeways.
Muizzu said the project could be completed within a maximum of one year if the current pace continues, while officials previously cited 2027.
