GHMC launches 10-day monsoon clean-up drive across Hyderabad

During the rainy season, the city of Hyderabad gets messy — rubbish piles up, drains get blocked, and roads fill with water.

Dirty standing water is not just yucky; it lets mosquitoes that spread diseases like dengue grow and bite people.

So the city government, called the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, or GHMC, decided to do a big ten-day clean-up.

Starting on August 11 and ending on August 21, workers will clean every one of the city's 150 wards, which are like neighbourhoods.

They will remove garbage, clear blocked drains, and fix potholes on the roads.

Special teams will also spray to stop mosquito babies from growing and visit homes to teach people how to stay safe.

The cleaning happens every morning at 6 am, and each ward must send a daily report about its progress.

The goal is to stop the rain from flooding streets and to keep everyone in Hyderabad healthy.
