GHMC Removes 74.8 MT Waste During Monsoon Drive
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is running a special cleaning campaign in Hyderabad.
The campaign lasts 10 days, from August 11 to 21.
On its eighth day, workers removed 74.8 metric tonnes of waste.
They also fixed potholes and cleaned places where rainwater flows.
Workers started three rainwater-harvesting structures and checked seven public toilets.
Officials held awareness programmes in schools, shops, and communities.
Health teams sprayed areas to help control pests and took measures involving stray dogs.
The drive also included cleaning parks and supporting women’s self-help groups.
Officials said the work will help the city handle the continuing monsoon.
GHMC removed 53.40 MT of legacy municipal solid waste and 21.40 MT of construction and demolition waste on Day 8.
Teams filled 24 potholes, cleaned 29 catch pits, cleared three culverts, and removed 5 MT of floating material and silt.
Three rainwater-harvesting structures were initiated, while seven public toilets were inspected and 43 commercial bins installed.
Awareness, health, and environmental efforts included school programmes, pyrethrum spraying, stray-dog measures, and park waste removal.
The 10-day drive, running from August 11 to 21, aims to improve cleanliness and monsoon preparedness across Hyderabad.
