'From Fragile 5 To World's Fastest-Growing Nation': PM Modi's I-Day Speech · NDTV

India's leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave a big speech from the Red Fort in New Delhi on the country's 80th Independence Day.

He told the whole country that India used to be called one of the 'Fragile Five' — a name for economies that people thought were weak.

Now, just twelve years later, India is the fastest-growing big economy in the world.

He said this happened because 140 crore people in India worked hard and stayed determined.

He also said that 25 crore people — that is 250 million — have come out of poverty.

India has a new big dream, called Viksit Bharat, which means becoming a developed country.

The goal is to reach it by 2047, when India completes 100 years of freedom.

He talked about big improvements in making defence items, electronics and railway coaches, and in digital payments.

He said no force can stop the resolve of India's people.
