SpaceX Builds In-House Foundry To Boost Gas Turbine Production · deccanchronicle.com

SpaceX is building a special factory in Texas to make important parts for gas turbines.

These parts are called blades and vanes, and they help turbines produce electricity.

Elon Musk said making the parts inside SpaceX could help turbines start working up to 18 months sooner.

The factory will be built near Bastrop, next to a Starlink plant.

Many other factories that make these parts are already booked for several years.

This has slowed some power projects that would supply artificial-intelligence data centers.

The factory may also make parts for SpaceX rockets because the aerospace and energy components use similar materials and furnaces.

SpaceX has not said when the facility will be finished, and environmental filings are still pending.

Key facts

Specialized global foundries are reportedly booked through 2029–2030
Project status
No official completion date announced; state environmental filings remain pending

Quotes

Elon Musk

CEO of SpaceX and Tesla who confirmed the planned in-house turbine-component foundry

“The limiting factor for nat gas turbine production is casting the blades & vanes. By doing in-house casting at SpaceX, we can accelerate nat gas turbines coming online by up to 18 months, which is a profound game-changer.”
