Mangaluru Railway Area to Join South Western Railway in October
Mangaluru’s railway area is currently managed by more than one railway administration.
The Railway Board has decided to place the area up to Ullal under South Western Railway’s Mysuru division.
This change is planned for October 1, 2026.
The final boundaries will be described in a Gazette Notification.
The interchange between Southern Railway and South Western Railway will move from Padil to Ullal.
Thokur station will still be managed by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited.
Railway staff and posts will be reorganized, and some employees can choose which railway to join.
Supporters believe one main administration could make it easier to solve passenger problems and improve railway projects in coastal Karnataka.
The Railway Board will transfer Mangaluru area up to and including Ullal from Southern Railway’s Palakkad division to South Western Railway’s Mysuru division.
The jurisdictional change is scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026, subject to the Gazette Notification.
