Heavy Rain Alert In Madhya Pradesh Districts; Deficient Monsoon Continues
The India Meteorological Department, the group that studies the weather in India, says some places in Madhya Pradesh will get a lot of rain.
On Saturday, the districts of Panna, Satna and Rewa could get up to four inches of rain in one day.
Many other places, including the big cities of Bhopal and Indore, will get light rain or drizzle.
This rain is needed because the state has not gotten enough rain this season.
So far, Madhya Pradesh has received about 17 inches of rain, but it should have gotten about 21 inches by now.
That means the state is getting about 20 percent less rain than usual.
The eastern part of the state is especially dry, with nearly a quarter less rain than normal.
Only six districts have gotten more rain than usual.
The weather experts say the showers will continue for the next two days, with heavy rain possible in some places on August 10.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rain alert for Panna, Satna and Rewa districts, warning of up to 4 inches of rain in 24 hours.
Light rain or drizzle is expected in 52 districts, including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior and Jabalpur, into August 10.
Madhya Pradesh has received 16.8 inches (426.6 mm) of monsoon rain so far, about 20% below the normal of roughly 21 inches (533.6 mm) for this point in the season.
Eastern Madhya Pradesh has recorded 23% less rainfall than normal, and no district in the region has seen above-normal rain.
Only six districts - Gwalior, Bhind, Burhanpur, Dewas, Khandwa and Khargone - have received more rainfall than normal so far this season.
