Heavy Rain Batters Bhopal as Madhya Pradesh Districts Reel
It rained very heavily in Bhopal, a city in India, on Tuesday evening.
In just three hours, almost three inches of rain fell from the sky.
Many other towns in the state of Madhya Pradesh received a lot of rain too.
Because of all the rain, rivers rose very high and some small bridges went under the water.
The water made some roads difficult to drive on, and a school van even got stuck in Shivpuri.
Because it was not safe, schools in Bhopal were closed on Wednesday.
Some families had to leave their homes, and rescue workers moved them to safe places.
Sadly, one man drowned in a dam while bathing.
Weather experts warned that more heavy rain and storms might come.
People were told to stay safe and be careful.
Bhopal recorded 74.5 mm (3 inches) of rain in just three hours on Tuesday evening, according to the meteorological department.
In 24 hours, Biaora recorded 229.0 mm, Khilchipur 205.0 mm, Zirapur 191.0 mm, Rajgarh 112.0 mm and Gulana 102.0 mm of rainfall.
The Narmada, Betwa and Kalisind rivers were in spate in Vidisha and Narmadapuram, with small bridges and culverts overflowing and disrupting road connectivity.
The Bhopal District Education Officer ordered all schools in the district closed for students on Wednesday, while teachers were directed to report to work.
In Sehore, affected families were shifted to safer places, relief camps were set up, and a family stranded in Gopalpura was rescued by the DRC team.
Sheikh Abdul (35), a native of West Bengal, drowned in the Chhita Khudri Dam near Jabalpur; his body was found after a nearly 48-hour search.
The weather office warned of very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several districts over the next 24 hours.
