Heavy Rain Triggers Flood-Like Situation Across Madhya Pradesh Districts
Madhya Pradesh is a big state in India.
For a long time, it did not get enough rain, which made farmers worried.
Then, suddenly, a lot of rain fell at once across the state.
The rain was so heavy that some places looked like small lakes and rivers.
In the city of Bhopal, rainwater covered roads and even knocked down a tree.
Schools in Bhopal were closed for the day because of the rain.
Some houses got water inside them, and some roads were closed to keep people safe.
In one village, ten people had to be rescued from their house as the river rose.
Weather experts said the rain could continue for several more days, so people were told to be careful.
The rain was good news for farmers, who needed water for their crops.
A monsoon trough and low-pressure area over Madhya Pradesh brought heavy rain after a long dry spell, causing flood-like conditions in several districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rain alert for 21 districts, with orange alerts for Rajgarh, Vidisha, Sehore, Harda and Dewas.
Bhopal recorded 176 mm of rain in 24 hours, leading to waterlogging, a tree falling on VIP Road, and school closures for students up to Class 12.
In Sehore, police and villagers rescued 10 family members stranded near the Bhilakhedi River, while water entered and damaged houses in several villages.
Rain continued for a third day on Tuesday, and state data showed rainfall since June 1 stood at 483 mm against the normal 571 mm, a 15 per cent deficit.
