Assam flood situation improves as affected count drops to 51,000

In a part of India called Assam, heavy rain made rivers overflow and cover the land with water — that is called a flood.

Many families had to leave their homes because of the water.

A special group called ASDMA keeps track of how bad the flood is and helps people who are in trouble.

It said the flood is getting better, because fewer people are affected every day.

On Friday, more than 78,000 people were in trouble; on Saturday the number fell to about 62,000, and by Sunday it was down to more than 51,800.

No one died in the last day, and the total number of people who died in the flood this year stayed at 104.

The water is still covering some farm fields and villages in five parts of Assam.

The government is running relief camps where people can sleep and get food, and centres where supplies are handed out.

Farm crops and many animals have also been harmed by the water, and some roads are damaged.

The government is helping families and watching the water until it goes away.
