Darjeeling Welfare Society invites nominations for Capt Brijesh Thapa award

The Darjeeling Welfare Society is a group that gives a special award to amazing people from the Darjeeling hills.

The award is named after Captain Brijesh Thapa, a brave soldier from Darjeeling who lost his life while fighting terrorists.

This year, for the first time, anyone from the public can send in names of people who deserve the award.

To be nominated, you should be between 18 and 40 years old and live in the Darjeeling or Kalimpong districts.

People who now live elsewhere can still be nominated if Darjeeling is their permanent home.

Winners receive one lakh rupees in cash, a medal, and a certificate of honour.

The first winners last year included two forest service officers and a woman who climbed Mount Everest.

People can submit their suggestions using a Google form until August 26.

One important rule is that you cannot nominate yourself — someone else has to think you are wonderful!
