Ex-Panihati Municipality Chief Arrested in RG Kar Cremation Case
Police arrested Somnath Dey in Bengaluru.
He is accused of helping plan the hurried cremation of the R.G. Kar rape-murder victim’s body.
Police say Dey was one of three principal conspirators.

Somnath Dey, the former chief of Panihati Municipality, was arrested in Bengaluru over an alleged hurried-cremation conspiracy.
West Bengal Police identified Dey, Nirmal Ghosh and Sanjeev Mukherjee as the case’s three principal conspirators.
Police said Dey will be brought to Kolkata on transit remand and presented before a Barrackpore district court.
Ghosh and Mukherjee were previously arrested and are currently in judicial custody.
The investigation concerns allegations that the R.G. Kar victim’s body was hastily cremated, potentially preventing a second post-mortem.
