Helmet fails to shield ex-TMC whip Nirmal Ghosh from attack
A woman died after a very sad crime in Bengal, and many people were upset about what happened at her funeral.
A former politician named Nirmal Ghosh was arrested because people think something went wrong with how the woman's funeral was handled.
Many people gathered outside a police station to show they were happy he was caught.
Some of them threw eggs at him, and some even pushed and slapped him.
Police made him wear a helmet, but it did not stop people from attacking him.
He was caught in a town in Odisha because police used his phone to find where he was hiding.
The woman's neighbour and another former local leader were also accused.
The woman's father talked to the police but did not speak to reporters.
Police are also keeping the woman's parents safe.
A court will now decide what happens next.
Former TMC MLA and ex-chief whip of Bengal Assembly Nirmal Ghosh was arrested over alleged irregularities surrounding the cremation of the RG Kar rape-and-murder victim.
Crowds outside Khardah police station in Bengal celebrated the arrest with DJ music, and threw eggs, slapped and kicked Ghosh despite his helmet.
Ghosh was arrested from a hotel in Simulia, Balasore, Odisha after police tracked his mobile tower location; he had allegedly switched off his old number to evade detection.
An FIR was registered against Ghosh, former Panihati civic chairman Somnath Dey and the victim's neighbour Sanjib Mukherjee following a complaint by the victim's father.
The victim's father declined to speak to media, may give a 'confidential statement', and security around the victim's parents was strengthened.
