Every year on August 15, India celebrates the day it became a free country.

This year was special because it was the 80th Independence Day.

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, threw a big party called the 'At Home' reception.

It took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President's official home.

Many important people came, like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Vice President.

People from the army, sports, movies and art were also invited.

Even the American Ambassador to India attended and said he was happy to celebrate.

Earlier that day, the President placed a tribute at the National War Memorial to remember fallen soldiers.

The United States also sent birthday wishes to India.

They said the friendship between the two countries is stronger than ever.
