India got its freedom a long time ago, and every year it celebrates Independence Day on August 15.

The night before that big day, the President of India gives a special speech to the whole country.

This year, the speech was given by President Droupadi Murmu on August 14.

It is a tradition that happens every year.

On August 15, a big ceremony is held at the Red Fort in New Delhi.

The Prime Minister raises the Indian flag and talks to the nation there.

In last year's speech, the President talked about how India is becoming strong and self-reliant.

She said India's economy grew by 6.5 percent.

She also talked about a new railway line in the Kashmir Valley and India making more of its own defence equipment.
