The company that takes care of electricity in a part of India cuts tree branches that grow too close to power lines.

Before, it was hard to get rid of those cut branches.

Now, it is trying something new.

It uses a machine called a wood chipper to break the branches into tiny pieces.

Then it heats the pieces in a special oven called a biochar kiln.

The oven makes biochar, a dark, charcoal-like material that is good for the soil.

A leader at the company, Jitesh V. Patil, visited the pilot project at Mallapur to see how the machines work.

He told a city official, Radhika Gupta, that city offices could use the same idea.

She said the city would look into using similar technology.

This way, tree waste becomes something useful instead of being thrown away.
