Andhra Pradesh to Require Farmer IDs for Government Crop Procurement
Andhra Pradesh plans to require farmers to have a special Farmer ID to sell crops at government buying centres.
The ID must be connected to the land where the crops were grown.
AP Markfed buys pulses such as green gram, black gram, red gram and chickpea.
The Civil Supplies Corporation buys paddy.
Farmer IDs are already needed for crop insurance.
They will soon also be needed for the PM-KISAN scheme.
Officials say the ID is important because the central government contributes significantly to crop procurement.
Government workers and Common Service Centres will help farmers register and link their land.
So far, 51.83 lakh farmers have registered, out of a target of 64.71 lakh.
