Farmers in Odisha grow rice, which is also called paddy.

When the rice is ready, the government buys it from them so the farmers can earn money.

Before they can sell their rice, farmers must register at a government centre.

Some people worried that registering was too hard because farmers needed a special digital number called an Agristack ID.

The minister in charge, Krushna Chandra Patra, said this worry is not true.

He said farmers can register even without the Agristack ID.

The ID will be needed later when farmers collect tokens, but they can get it at the registration centre.

The government also said sharecroppers, who farm on land owned by someone else, can register without problems.

Thousands of farmers have already registered, so the minister said everything is going smoothly.

Krushna Chandra Patra

Odisha supply minister

“There are no complications in the paddy procurement process. A total of 5,093 farmers have registered across the state till August 9. Of them, 3,108 have an Agristack ID. We have not made the Agristack ID compulsory. A farmer can register even without this ID. There is no complication for sharecroppers either”
