Madhya Pradesh Launches First Amrit Mitra Pilot Project
Imagine water pipes under a city have tiny holes and water leaks out.
The government started a special class to teach women how to find and fix those holes.
The class is called 'Amrit Mitra'.
It is the first class of its kind in the whole country.
It is part of a big government plan called AMRUT 2.0 to take care of city water.
Women from groups called self-help groups are joining the class.
In Indore, 30 women are learning, and in Bhopal, 36 women are learning.
They learn how water pipes work, how to find leaks, and how to repair them.
These women are becoming plumbers, which helps them earn money and become more independent.
The government hopes to teach women in other parts of the country too.
Madhya Pradesh's Urban Administration Development and Housing Department (UADD) launched the country's first 'Amrit Mitra' pilot project under the Centre's AMRUT 2.0 Mission.
The initiative trains women from self-help groups (SHGs) in detecting and repairing leakages in urban water distribution systems.
The programme began in Indore on July 29 and was launched in Bhopal on Wednesday.
In the first phase, 30 women in Indore and 36 in Bhopal are receiving technical plumber trade training at Government Divisional Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
The project aims to reduce water loss and improve urban water supply efficiency, with the Madhya Pradesh model likely to be replicated across the country.
