Mumbai: BMC Approves ₹702.44-Crore Underground Pedestrian Link From Mahalaxmi To Coastal Road Despite Opposition · freepressjournal.in

Mumbai’s civic body approved money for a new underground walking passage.

It will connect a metro station near the Science Centre and Mahalaxmi Racecourse to the Coastal Road Garden and promenade.

The passage will be about 1.5 kilometres long and have six entrances and exits.

People will be able to walk through it without disturbing the racetrack or planned garden.

Supporters say it will make it easier to reach public places, events and tourist attractions.

Opposition corporators did not reject the passage itself.

They questioned why the BMC should pay the full cost when the metro corporation is carrying out the work.

They also said the BMC already has large unpaid and future project expenses.

The proposal passed because the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance had enough votes.
