Delhi Commission Orders Resort to Refund Wedding Advance
A man named Naresh booked a big party hall in Delhi for his daughter’s wedding in May 2021.
He paid a deposit of Rs 2 lakh.
But because of COVID‑19 rules, the wedding had to be moved to a small home ceremony.
Naresh asked the hall to give back his money, but they said it was non‑refundable.
He went to the Delhi consumer commission, which said the hall was wrong because the pandemic was a force that made the wedding impossible.
The commission ordered the hall to return the Rs 2 lakh and also give Rs 35,000 for the trouble he went through.
Naresh Kumar Madaan paid Rs 2 lakh advance for a May 2021 wedding at City Park Green Resort.
Delhi Disaster Management Authority banned large gatherings, forcing the wedding to be held at home.
The resort refused to refund the advance, citing a non‑refundable clause.
The Delhi consumer commission ruled the cancellation was due to force majeure and ordered a refund plus Rs 35,000 compensation.
The resort must pay the refund with 7% annual interest from the dates of payment.
