Mumbai Coastal Road North Targets December 2028 Completion
The Mumbai Coastal Road North is a large road project connecting Versova and Bhayandar.
It is about 60 kilometres long and is expected to cost Rs 22,000 crore.
The road could reduce the journey from up to two hours to about 15–20 minutes.
It will connect with other major coastal roads and sea links in Mumbai.
The project will have tunnels, bridges, elevated roads and several interchanges.
Workers have started preparing a tunnel construction site near Charkop Creek.
The BMC wants the project completed by December 2028, with March 2029 as the latest stated deadline.
Authorities received approval to use some mangrove forest land for construction.
They also plan to plant 1.37 lakh mangroves on other land as compensation.
The approximately 60-kilometre Versova-Bhayandar link is estimated to cost Rs 22,000 crore.
The project aims to cut travel time between Versova and Bhayandar from 90–120 minutes to 15–20 minutes.
Construction is divided into seven packages and includes tunnels, bridges, elevated roads and 10 interchanges.
The BMC is targeting completion by December 2028, with March 2029 as the outer deadline.
The project received final approval to divert 103.6554 hectares of mangrove land, alongside plans to plant 1.37 lakh compensatory mangroves.
