India and Uzbekistan Elevate Ties, Target $5 Billion Trade
India and Uzbekistan decided to make their partnership much stronger.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on Sunday, August 30.
They upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
They agreed to create a long-term arrangement for Uzbekistan to supply uranium to India for peaceful, civilian nuclear energy.
The reports did not provide detailed terms of the uranium arrangement.
The countries want yearly trade to grow from more than $1 billion to $5 billion by 2030.
They also plan to work together on defence, farming, medicine, technology, energy, space and education.
A council of foreign ministers will help guide their cooperation.
Uzbekistan also gave Modi its Order of the Highest Friendship.
India and Uzbekistan upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during talks in Tashkent.
The countries agreed to establish a long-term framework for uranium supplies from Uzbekistan to India for civil nuclear energy.
They set a goal of increasing annual bilateral trade from more than $1 billion to $5 billion by 2030.
Cooperation will expand across defence, critical minerals, mining, energy, technology, agriculture, healthcare, education and tourism.
The leaders created a foreign-minister-level Coordination Council and upgraded their joint commission to the ministerial level.
