India, Uzbekistan Advance Strategic Partnership With Uranium Arrangement

India and Uzbekistan decided to make their partnership much stronger.

They announced plans for a long-term arrangement for Uzbekistan to supply uranium to India for civilian nuclear power.

The countries will create a council led by their foreign ministers to guide cooperation.

They will also upgrade an existing joint commission so ministers can oversee it.

Trade between the countries passed $1 billion last year, and they want it to reach $5 billion by 2030.

The two sides also discussed defence, technology, clean energy, space, healthcare, education and business.

They agreed to create sister-city and sister-state partnerships and make it easier for people to travel between the countries.

Modi visited Tashkent from August 29 to 30 before traveling to Kyrgyzstan for a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
