Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan Begin Defence Pact Talks

Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a defence agreement earlier this month.

Their senior officials will meet in Istanbul for the agreement’s first committee meeting.

Foreign and defence ministers and military chiefs are expected to attend.

The agreement says that an attack on one member would be treated as an attack on all three.

This idea is similar to NATO’s collective-defence rule.

The officials will discuss improving their military abilities and working together more closely.

They may also discuss producing defence equipment and technologies jointly.

The countries are concerned about regional conflict and the military positions of Israel and Iran.

Turkey says other countries, including Egypt, could possibly join later.
