Maharashtra FDA Suspends Licences After Mumbai Kitchen Violations
Food safety inspectors checked several kitchens in Maharashtra.
In four Mumbai kitchens, they found cockroaches, dirty tools, reused cooking oil and food stored in unsafe conditions.
They also found problems that could mix vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.
The kitchens had damp areas, bad drainage and stagnant wastewater.
Their licences were suspended immediately.
In Akola, inspectors checked two oil businesses.
They seized large amounts of soyabean oil because they suspected it might be adulterated.
The businesses also lacked required laboratory facilities or reports and were selling loose oil despite their licences being for repacking.
The FDA said it will continue inspections and take legal action when rules are broken.
Licences of four Mumbai food businesses were suspended after inspectors found cockroaches, poor hygiene, reused oil and possible cross-contamination.
Inspectors reported exposed cooked rice, damp and fungal areas, heavily soiled equipment, poor drainage and stagnant wastewater.
The FDA said some establishments allegedly used excessive artificial colours and monosodium glutamate, while repeatedly reusing darkened cooking oil.
In Akola, officials seized 3,428.400 kilograms of Shakti refined soyabean oil valued at Rs 6,21,300 over suspected adulteration and licensing irregularities.
Another Akola firm surrendered 3,598.400 kilograms of loose refined soyabean oil worth Rs 5,61,350; both firms’ licences were suspended.
