Heavy Rain Batters Odisha as IMD Red-Warns Five Districts
Heavy rain fell across many parts of Odisha.
The rain was linked to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
The weather department gave its highest warning, called a red warning, to five districts.
Thuamul Rampur received 345 millimetres of rain.
Kashipur received 212 millimetres.
Nineteen other places also received between 100 and 200 millimetres.
More heavy rain was expected through August 26.
Fishermen were told to stay out of the sea because rough weather and strong winds were expected.
Heavy to extremely heavy rain affected several parts of Odisha under a low-pressure area over the northwestern Bay of Bengal.
The India Meteorological Department issued a red warning for Cuttack, Anugul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.
Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi recorded 345 mm of rain, while Kashipur in Rayagada received 212 mm in 24 hours.
Nineteen other locations recorded between 100 mm and 200 mm of rainfall during the same period.
The IMD forecast similar conditions through August 26 and advised fishermen to avoid the sea until August 24.
