A very long time ago, India was ruled by Britain, a country far away.

In 1942, a famous leader named Mahatma Gandhi and many other people started a big movement called the Quit India Movement.

They wanted the British to leave India so that Indians could be free.

Gandhi gave the people a powerful message: 'Do or Die,' which meant they had to be brave and ready to give everything for freedom.

Many brave men and women joined peaceful protests to show they wanted freedom.

Some freedom fighters were arrested and sent to jail for taking part.

Every year on August 9, people remember this day as August Kranti Day.

Recently, India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and other leaders remembered these heroes and said their courage still inspires all Indians.

Because of the brave efforts of these freedom fighters, India finally became free in 1947.
