Karnataka Congress Marks 84th Anniversary of Quit India Movement
A very long time ago, in 1942, India was ruled by Britain.
A great leader named Mahatma Gandhi and a big group called the Indian National Congress told the British to leave India.
This was called the Quit India Movement, which means 'Go away from India.'
Gandhi wanted people to fight for freedom without hurting anyone.
He gave a famous saying: 'Do or Die.'
Many brave men and women joined this movement.
Now, many years later, people still remember that day.
On a Sunday, Congress leaders in Karnataka held a special meeting in Bengaluru.
They remembered the brave freedom fighters and honored the 84th anniversary of that movement.
The day is called August Kranti Day.
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) held a programme at its Bengaluru headquarters to mark the 84th anniversary of the Quit India Movement.
Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and KPCC President BK Hariprasad were among the leaders who attended the commemoration.
Minister Ramalinga Reddy, former minister Rani Satish, MLAs, and party functionaries also took part in the event.
The Quit India Movement, or Bharat Chodo Andolan, was launched by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress on August 9, 1942, during the Second World War.
The movement, which began at Gawalia Tank in Mumbai, demanded an end to British rule and is remembered annually as August Kranti Day.
