Heavy Rain Soaks Calcutta as Low-Pressure System Lingers
Calcutta received very heavy rain after a weather system stayed over the area longer than expected.
The rain started on Monday night and became strongest on Tuesday morning.

Alipore recorded more than 70mm between 8:30am and 1pm, and about 90mm in 24 hours.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation stations recorded 122mm in Jodhpur Park, 97mm in Garia and 91mm on Southern Avenue.
Heavy rain, lightning and thunder caused waterlogging on several major roads, especially in south Calcutta.
The low-pressure system lingered over south Bengal instead of moving toward Jharkhand, with showers expected to weaken from Wednesday morning.
