Machilipatnam's local council for villages has been divided into two councils, called North and South.

The government did this after the old council's term ended.

Before that, the revenue mandal had already been divided, but its elected council stayed together.

Each new council covers 17 village councils.

North has nine MPTCs and South has 11.

Their populations were recorded as 35,402 and 33,668 in the 2011 Census.

Both councils will have their offices in Machilipatnam town.

The change starts on October 5.

Krishna district will now have 26 Mandal Parishads instead of 25.
