Delhi CM Announces New Waste Processing Facilities
Delhi is building new places to process garbage.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said a large amount of old waste has been removed from three landfill sites.
She said this freed nearly 100 acres of land.
New facilities are planned at Okhla, Ghazipur and Singhola.
One facility at Ghazipur will make biogas.
The plants are also meant to handle new garbage and construction waste.
Gupta said almost all the old waste at Okhla from before January 2025 has been processed.
She wants the new facilities to operate quickly and at full capacity.
The aim is to stop new piles of garbage from growing.
Rekha Gupta said 217.17 lakh metric tonnes of waste were disposed of at Delhi’s Okhla, Bhalswa and Ghazipur landfill sites over about 18 months.
She said the work reclaimed nearly 100 acres of land.
Foundation stones were laid for facilities at Okhla, Ghazipur and Singhola, including a biogas plant at Ghazipur.
Gupta said almost all legacy waste at Okhla that existed before January 2025 had been processed.
The new facilities are intended to process fresh and construction waste and support production of biogas, green energy and manure.
