Monsoon Withdrawal Advances as Rain Forecast Across Several States
India’s weather agency says the summer monsoon is starting to pull back from some areas.
It may retreat from more places in the next two or three days.
At the same time, many parts of India are expected to get rain over the coming days.
The forecast covers areas in the northwest, central and eastern regions, as well as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Some places may get only a few showers, while others could have more widespread rain.
Chhattisgarh may also have thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusts on 8 October.
The monsoon is important because it supplies much of India’s yearly rainfall and supports farming and water supplies.
The India Meteorological Department says the southwest monsoon may withdraw from more areas over the next two to three days.
The forecast areas include parts of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, and some areas of Telangana and north interior Karnataka.
The current withdrawal line runs through parts of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
The IMD expects rainfall in parts of northwest India from 8 to 13 October, with timing and intensity varying by area.
